What is Transitional Housing?

The Transitional Housing Program is a 2-year supportive program for families fleeing domestic violence and having common experiences. It is an 8-unit furnished apartment complex for homeless women and children.

The primary purpose of the program is to assist women in defining individual and family goals which will create a new and better life for her family. Advocates are available to support families in building self-esteem and develop self-sufficiency.

New skills will be learned in areas such as parenting, financial management, job attainment and retention, education and skills to achieve and maintain good physical and mental health.

Referals come from the Shelters and Safe Home programs within the State of Minnesota and from the Northwestern CoC group

What is Expected?

- For safety reasons and for the peaceful enjoyment of the community, there are rules and policies that need to be followed. A handbook will be given to each accepted applicant defining the policies at TH.

- TH staff will work to assist in achieving goals and overcoming obstacles that have prevented participants from living safe and violent-free lives. Weekly, mandatory support groups help to meet these goals.

- The families are expected to participate in services offered and to show progress during their available 2-year stay.

- We pay the electricity, heat and public utilities. Participants are expected to pay rent based on income, security deposit, and other additional needs.
